Catwalk Lingerie Trends in 2014

Dressing fashionably is something we all like to do. By watching the models as they parade down the runways at the Paris, London, Milan and New York fashion shows, we get a glimpse into the glamorous world of haute couture – and wonder how on earth we can achieve those same looks?Last autumn the events showcasing clothes for 2014 aired more lingerie than usual. Trends showing our undergarments peeping through clothing and a general shift towards accentuating the feminine form have definitely started gathering momentum. Leading fashion designers, such as Stella McCartney and Dolce and Gabbana, teamed outfits with garments that borrowed heavily from lingerie styles, and lacy and ultra feminine fabrics were employed to great success.

We are living in pretty sexy times right now. Pop culture is alive with erotica, whether it’s in the Fifty Shades books or twerking musical starlets, and the fashion world is reacting accordingly. Taking the pulse of the cultural mood, style leaders are pushing things in a sensual direction.

Fashion shows with their edgy designers and sometimes outlandish costumes deliberately push the style boundaries, and this is where the most innovative and bold ideas get laid down. After the catwalk shows, the signature looks gradually filter down to the high street and the more mainstream designers attempt to interpret the new styles.

The world of lovely lingerie is never forgotten on the catwalks. Let’s be honest, beautiful lingerie is not really designed to be hidden under clothing, it’s created to be admired. With this in mind, in 2014 lingerie designers really go to town on the sexiest, skimpiest and most exquisite creations ever seen in the boudoir.

Trend spotters for lingerie brands have noticed a push towards the babydoll nightie in all its forms. Whether it’s cute and fresh in white poplin with a retro feel, or vampish and dangerous in dark silks and satins, sexy lingerie nighties are calling the tune in the bedroom this year.

Other trends include patterned fabrics for ultra-feminine bras and briefs. Lingerie lovers should look out for geometric and honeycomb designs coupled with sheer metallic fabrics and fine lacework and embroidery detailing.

The trend for wearing sexy swimwear on the outside will result in pieces that are finely decorated. Jewels, beading and sequins are becoming popular, as lingerie is adapting to a wider audience. Mixing formal day wear with a visible camisole in lace or vintage silk is no longer considered inappropriate and the rise in seamed stockings and fishnets for every day use is really taking hold.

Achieving current lingerie styles needn’t be expensive. A simple, sheer camisole with lace trim is easy enough to get hold of, and customizing it with pretty pearls, beads or sequins will lift it into another realm. Do the same with bras, briefs and nighties so they shimmer and catch the light. A corset or bustier coupled with jeans or skirt makes a fantastic evening outfit, combining fun, flirty and feminine all in one.

Oh yes, our love affair with lingerie has definitely been rekindled. Who knows where we go from here? The only certainty is that from now on, we will be seeing a lot more of lingerie… both in and out of the bedroom.

Global Lingerie Market

Global intimate wear market is estimated to be around $29.15 billion USD in 2004, $30 billion USD in 2007, and is further projected to increase at the rate of 9% to become $31.6 billion USD by 2012. Organized players constitute over 40% of the lingerie market currently. Branded lingerie market is further expected by industry experts to see a rise of 25% by 2010. Of the total global lingerie sales, bras account for 56%, briefs at 32%, and daywears make the remaining 12%. Retail lingerie market has grown by $770 million USD. The main concern in the marketing of lingerie's; worldwide, is the fight for market share between the global brands and the retailer's local brands. The leading global key player is Sara Lee, a US based manufacturer who also have a strong hold in the European market. Followed by this are other companies like La Perla, Truimph, Maidenform, VF, and Warnaco. In chain stores, Victoria's Secret of US, Knickerbox of UK, and Hunkemoller of Europe have a whiz market.

The growing appeal of lingerie has driven the market into the designing of innovative products. Retailers concur with the fact that lingerie's have a higher profit margin than any other apparel. Vendors are now concentrating on having coalitions with lingerie specialty stores. A survey states that an average woman buys approximately five lingerie's in a year. It also states that an average woman has six bras and eight pairs of briefs in her wardrobe, which is normally more than what she requires. This implicates that sexy lingerie sales are normally driven by style factors and current fashion more than its need. Growth in the level of disposable income, and increasing number of working women enhance intimate wear sales, and this situation favors the growth of the global lingerie market.

Rethink Your Swimwear Collection With These Statement Picks

Once upon a time there was one archetypal swimsuit for young women to have. Whether it was in a solid print or pattern, you weren't a PYT if you weren't sporting a triangle-top string bikini on the sands or poolside. Causing untold distress to millions of women all over the country, we can breathe a sigh of relief, for times have officially changed.

It started with the tankini, the monokini and has now become a full blown phenomenon for which we're grateful. No longer is one type of suit de rigueur. This season it's definitely time to up your fashion game on the beach by choosing a suit that truly reflects your taste and comfort level. From sexy one-pieces to bustier two-pieces, retro high-waists to sporty neoprene, sexy swimwear has never been so diverse exciting. Check out our picks to inspire your best swim season yet.

Women all over the world wear sexy swimwear of all different styles all year round

Women all over the world wear sexy swimwear of all different styles all year round. Whether at the beach, on a cruise, at a pool party, or relaxing in a jacuzzi, a bikini can make a woman feel and look as sexy as possible. The most sexy beachwear available are bikinis of any style. G-String style bikinis are generally the most sexy. These are ultra-revealing and made available in just about every type of print. Whether a solid colour, animal print, or with a sheer skirt attached, G-string bikinis are growing more and more popular this season, since they are about the most reveling bikini bottoms one can get. Women love them not only because they can make you look ultra sexy and daring, but because you can avoid big tan lines while laying out in the sun.

The best in sexy swimwear are bikinis of any style that best suit your body type. Women with smaller breasts can get padded bikini tops. Women wanting more shape can get under wire bikini tops to give them a little boost. If you are self conscious about your hips or butt, sheer skirts can be added so that you still look sexy but can hide your cellulite in these areas. Bikinis are designed to make women look and feel sexy, so search for a style that really suits your body type. Swimsuits should make you feel comfortable and proud of your body, rather than self-conscious. Confidence is key, but sexy swimwear can help you achieve confidence.

Sexy swimwear is important to show others that you have a great body and are just as worthy of showing it off as any other woman is. You may often see some women at the beach, or even some of your friends, who are completely covered. They might wear a ridiculous pair of knee-length shorts and an over sized t-shirt. Later they'll complain about how they have such bad tan lines. There are many swimwear styles to fit every size and shape. Bikinis can be bought as a set, or you can mix and match a different top and bottom to better suit your needs. Perhaps you want a more revealing top piece, but a less revealing bottom. You can buy a pair of hipster bottoms with a small string bikini top in the same colour or a contrasting colour or style so that it matches.

With summer just around the corner, it's the perfect time to start your search for sexy swimwear and find the best bikinis. The next step is to shed a few of the winter pounds you put on in the last few months so that you're ready to look the sexiest you have in a while!

Traditional Wedding Dresses OUT - Short Sexy Wedding Dress IN

Yesterday I saw a picture of a wedding gown on Facebook with a very long train, titled, "Are long trains long gone or long overdue for a comeback?" The response was overwhelming that the most people loved the dress. If this is the case, why are designers gravitating toward short sexy wedding dresses? Have traditional wedding gowns been replaced by sexier, sleeker styles?

The amazing thing about fashion, is that styles are constantly recycled. Though the modern bride circa 2013 may still want a long sleeved, long train ball gown... just not the Princess Diana type! Fashion has the amazing ability to build from the past and reinvent "old" styles to modernize them. This is the current trend with more and more brides overlooking traditional wedding dresses for short sexy ones!

Even more fascinating, "short wedding dresses," resulted in 58,300,000! Yet, any combination of, "long train wedding dresses, "gave slightly over 2.5M. Something is going on here with short sexy wedding dresses dominating Google searches! The question I ask whether the designers are influencing statistics by producing these gowns, so that's the only thing available, or did the demand supersede supply?
The age-old question, "what came first the chicken or the egg" pops up. Did plus size brides DEMAND more short styles and the industry listened, and gave them what they wanted? Or were plus size brides simply told what the market had available and what options to buy? By the overwhelming response from Google, its pretty safe to say, demand creatsed supply in the case, BUT fashion designers are always at the helm deciding what will be in style this season and next.

Another explanation for the decrease of traditional wedding sexy dress, is the fact more couples are having destination weddings. We all know how uncomfortable sand is when it gets in your feet. Can you imagine how HOT, sweaty and miserable you would be on beach, in 100 degrees in plus size ball gown? NO THANK YOU! Short gowns certainly have their place.

Yet still many brides will wear traditional wedding dresses to walk down the aisle, yet quickly change and slip into something more comfortable to dance at the reception. Though stunningly beautiful, long train gowns are a hassle to dance with, and you risk somebody stepping on it, tripping on it or spilling. It could really be more of a hazard than helpful! Undeniably, any bride will take ravishing pictures in a cathedral length ball gown, but would feel more comfortable at the reception in a sexy wedding gown!

Swimwear 2014 Resort Trends

Arriving to stores mid-November, the 2014 cruise collections feature ethnic prints in bold colors like lagoon blue and tropical orange. Purple and lime move into accent colors featured in trims and accessories. And of course, the best bright white and jet black monochrome duo’s hit the shelves just in time for people to purchase a great happy hour suit.

So what is the lifestyle of the cruise customer? Lets break it down into 3 main activities that I hear my cruise customers being excited about.

Sunning– For most of the country a resort vacation is a quick getaway to soak up some sun since home is being dusted in snow and frost. This is a special suit to sit pool or beachside, and tends to push the envelope in trends. It can be any style, but fashion forward is a must. For 2014 I recommend playing with prints and or small cut away details (that means no solids and no mono-kinis).

Out & About – Modern resort travelers are doing adventure vacations and cruise ship travel with other people. A great suit that offers style and function is a must for this jet-setter. This suit should be able to be worn easily with a cover-up, and most people appreciate matching. A great tankini or the 2014 trend of having a matching rash-guard works great. All you need is a great pair of sexy swimwear or wrinkle free skirt to create an outfit!

Happy Hour – Most cruise ships and resorts offer happy hour poolside. This traveler wants a suit to be seen in. Something fashion forward that looks even better when holding a blue Hawaii in one hand. Play with gold and silver details and match the suit with a silk sarong or fashionable sheer cover-up. For the more self-conscious, offer them a great maxi or beach dress that looks luxury and travels wrinkle free.

No matter which lifestyle the customer participates in, accessories are a must this season: the retro sunglasses, a great fedora or small brim hat (crushable for easy travel), the comfortable flip flop and the perfect beach bag. These essentials help travelers arrive in style.

How to Shop for Lingerie

Lingerie is probably one of your favorite Valentine's Day gifts (for obvious reasons), but before you get to rip it off her, learn how to get her something she will want to actually put on.

Valentine's Day is just a few days away. If you've been putting off the dreaded task of buying her lingerie it's time to face your fear. Trust us, the outcome will be extremely worth those few minutes of awkwardness. To make it less intimidating we got experts in the field to share tips that will turn you into an expert in all things lace.

Get Yourself Inside

While this first piece of advice may sound stupidly simple, it has to be said. In order to buy her something from a lingerie store, you actually have to walk into a store. "We see many men hovering around outside looking in the windows, perhaps getting up the nerve to come in," says Monica Mitro, EVP of Brand Communication and Events at Victoria's Secret. But remember this when you are standing there nervously peeping the windows: loitering around outside a lingerie store is much creepier than actually shopping inside of it, so man-up and go in.

Know You Are Not Alone

Once you make it inside you'll realize you're not the lone guy sticking out like a Yankees cap at Fenway. According to Mitro, Valentine's Day and the few days leading up to it are the most popular days of the year for men to shop for lingerie: "Guys can take comfort in knowing that there will be lots of other men in the store all in the same situation." That also gives you a great opportunity to stock up for her birthday or other holidays when you might want to give her lingerie. Do it now while you've got comrads around for support.

Get Her Digits

It's extremely common for men to know absolutely nothing about sizing, so don't be embarrassed. Instead, do some investigative work by peeking in her drawers while she's in the shower or out of the room, suggests Alexis Isodora, owner of lingerie boutique Brooklyn Fox. Just remember that some brands size differently so check at least 3 of her bras and 3 of her sexy panties. Oh, and write it down, warns Isodora. There's no way you are going to remember, plus you can hand the info to a salesgirl who can help decipher the right size based on your notes.

Can't get her out of the room? Stick with an item that is available in small, medium, large or one size fits all. Don't try to guess without any basis for information—there is nothing scarier than getting her something that doesn't fit and having to deal with her resulting freak out.

Prepare Yourself

Before you head to a store check out their website to see what they have to offer and get an idea of what colors and styles you might like to see on your girl, suggests Mitro. Doing some preliminary shopping from the safety and privacy of your desk chair can make the process a little less overwhelming, plus you can stare at the models on your screen all you want without anyone singling you out as a perv!

Ask For Help

You may not want to stop on the road to ask for directions, but this is one place where you want to put your pride aside. If you're unsure (which you probably are), don't risk getting her something she'll hate. Think of the sales associates as your lingerie GPS and let them guide you to the right gift. "We love that we get to educate men and show them a few things we think will excite them and their partner," says Isodora. And the good thing is that they have seen some freaky stuff, so nothing will phase them.

Get the Good Stuff

Cotton may work for her everyday basics, but for Valentine's Day you definitely want to up the ante and go for lace, satin or silk. Or even better—a combination of them. Different styles suit different women but you hopefully know your woman pretty well, so Isodora suggests using common sense. If she's a laid back t-shirt & jeans kind of girl, she probably doesn't want a frilly, intricate bustier with complicated buttons or lace-ups. Try something sweet, simple, and satin.

If she's more high-maintenace and spends an hour putting on makeup, you probably could go the more complex route. For girly girls like this, Mitro suggests bold colors with glamorous lace.

Use Your Judgment

Above all use your judgment. If you're in a new relationship, don’t buy something too sexy, warns Mitro. If she's never expressed an interested in bondage, do not get her something that resembles a straight jacket. If she's not into role play, a skimpy candy stripper outfit is not going to go over well. And if she has insecurities about certain parts of her body (even if you swear she's perfect), don't get her something that will reveal those areas.

With Breastfeeding Awareness Month well under way, we have written about essentials items a breastfeeding mama might need and heard from founder of Pumping Essentials, Joy Kosack. Clothing that a breastfeeding mama wears can make all the difference in her success, level of comfort and ease of adapting to no fuss nursing.

Here are a few brands I have tried, trust and love! I had tried other brands when I was nursing my other two children, and I can say that my plan to commit to extended BF will be much easier knowing I have functional, fashionable lingerie and tops that will aid in discreet and stress-free nursing.

Belabumbum: For ease of nursing, we love Belabumbum lounge wear and pajamas. For luxe style and romantic designs, you’ll feel beautiful and comfortable while easily and discreetly nursing your babe. Each piece has special details and nothing feels like it was made for nursing, perfect now as maternity wear, perfect later as your is body transforming and you’re breastfeeding baby. You have to check out their new Queen Bee collection perfect for making any mama feel like a princess.

Bella Materna: When it comes to sexy lingerie, Bella Materna has a beautiful line of both wire and wire free bras. I had a variety of nursing bras in the past, and needed them for well over a year, and each and every time I dreaded putting on the ugly, style-less and not altogether comfortable nursing bras I had. Thanks to Bella Materna, I’m ditching the dinge and now have the most beautiful nursing and maternity bras a mama could want. I was shocked at the support, comfort and overall look of the wire-free nursing bras-they are so lux, and pretty as well as do quite a job to keep your growing mamahood in place. I can wear the Bella Materna bras all day, feeling comfortable and confident. I love the little details, each Bella Materna bra celebrates mamahood without compromising an ounce on sexy. Find Bella Materna on facebook or pinterest or twitter.

Bravado Designs: For all day comfort, great quality and an affordable pricepoint, look no further than Bravado designs nursing tanks and bras. I currently wear the tanks as for extra support while sleeping and find they offer super soft comfort while having just the right amount of stretch and fabric mobility. I know they’ll make nursing a cinch with they easy-open yet blending hooks. Not all tanks are created equally, and the Bravado Designs tanks are available in a variety of colors, as well as sizes (appropriate for larger busts!). They also have a full line of daily wear, comfy, bras in fun colors that offer good coverage, lift and support. The strap placement is perfect and the removable pads are great to adjust the bra as needed.

Glamourmom Nursing Tanks: For longer length, comfort and slim fit, Glamourmom tanks are essential to a BF moms’ arsenal. The best feature is the easily adjustable chest band, great for all stages of pregnancy and well beyond. This Glamourmom tank is so versatile and is the perfect tank for layering. (read more of my review Here)

Louis Valcourt: For edgy and modern nursing wear made easy, check out Louis Valcourt. I love how all I need to do is unzipper this top to feed baby discreetly, all while keeping my midsection covered and without having to wear what looks like a nursing top. High quality material means this top will stand up to multiple washings without losing its shape. I wear it now with leggings for a chic, sophisticated and easy maternity style.

Thyme Maternity: For a full line of affordable and stylish clothes that make nursing a cinch, Thyme Maternity has been a go-to brand throughout this pregnancy. I love their basics, and their on trend tops. I can mix and match the versatile pieces and can wear them during my pregnancy and beyond.

Undercover Mama: Undercover mama tanks are strapless camisoles that attach to any nursing bra. Great for layering under any shirt and keeping your style without investing in a new wardrobe, the Undercover Mama transforms any shirt into a nursing shirt.

Lingerie Closet: What’s In Yours?

Looking on myspace and other websites it’s hard to believe this but there are many plus women that do not wear lingerie. There are some that if they do wear it stick with just a silk chemise.

Here’s a tip and a secret from the guys I’ve dated and others that love women with curves:

They absolutely love sexy lingerie! My ex-boyfriends appreciated that I wore it.

Different colors, 2 piece numbers, lace, see thru, thongs, whatever. You have to know and believe how sexy you are before trying to convince a man. But here’s my number one reason for advising my fellow plus divas to invest in a lingerie wardrobe; do it for you.

My sexiest days or nights were when I took a hot bubble bath, had some slow music playing, candlelight and afterwards slipped on a nice piece of lingerie. Pamper yourself. This would be a good time to try out that new item you’ve been avoiding to try on for your man.

So one night just put it on and try it out.

Get yourself comfortable in it so the next time you all are together you’ll seem confident and comfortable in your curves and clothes. I’d also suggest treating yourself by getting your hair and nails done every once in awhile. I know times are tight but it’s tight for everyone, even those businesses. Some businesses are even having specials or discounts because of the tough economy.

To build my lingerie wardrobe, I’d buy things I thought were cute when I saw it on sale or clearance, even when I was single. So when I did get involved I could wear something different every night for a month without repeating.

Paint a Picture with Sexy Lingerie

Here's a secret for all the women out there (if they haven't figured it out already): men are visual creatures. Just like there are verbal learners and visual learners, all the men out there sometimes need for you to paint them a picture in order to better understand a task. Here's proof to this revelation: how often have you told your husband that the car is making a “thumping” noise. Does he ever believe you? Probably not, until he sees for himself that the cause of whatever is making the car thump. See, visual learner. The same goes in the bedroom. Sometimes, our men don't quite understand what we want, so we have to paint them a picture, and we can do so with deliciously sexy lingerie.

How many men can resist a woman in any type of sexy lingerie? There is something about lace, ribbons, feathers, leather, or not-so-subtle sheer material that drives a man wild. And honestly, who can blame him? Who doesn't look fabulous is oh-so-sexy lingerie? The answer is no one. Regardless how you feel about your body, sexy lingerie is the best way to begin loving yourself again (and maybe even get some “love” in the process). After all, if women do not feel feminine in sexy lingerie, why do we purchase these fantastic frocks instead of the ubiquitous underwear? The truth very well may be that women love sexy lingerie just as much as men.

Outside factors can play a huge part in your sex life, including your job and responsibilities. Just because the spark may be hidden beneath a bundle of problems, stresses, and worries does not mean that it has gone out! People are too easy consumed with their problems to take the hints dropped by another individual about meeting their needs. Instead of dropping hints or becoming aggravated when your partner seems to blatantly ignore your specific needs, send him a visual message. Dress up in a drop dead gorgeous baby doll and meet him at the door. It's guaranteed to send him over the edge.

One popular gift for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays (especially the man-dreaded St. Valentine's Day) is sexy lingerie. If you are tired of receiving ill-fitting, itchy, uncomfortable, and all around dreadful-looking lingerie, tell your spouse that this year, the gift is on you. This way, you can ensure that you get exactly what you want and your partner will be a happy boy once he sees you in your latest getup. Another option is to leave him a blatant visual hint: send him the webpage of the specific piece of sexy lingerie you want along with a not-so-subtle message of “buy us this.”

If you are surprising your man with a stunningly sexy lingerie spread, be sure to have all your elements into play. No one wants to enjoy the benefits of wearing provocative lingerie and then have to finish the dishes. Create and entire evening, day, or weekend where you can spend together without having to worry about the outside world. Throw in some jaw-dropping lingerie and seal the deal. Who could possibly complain? Remember, there is nothing in the world so important that it hides your spark, after all, that spark is one of the reasons that brought the two of you together in the first place.

So, what have we learned today? First, men are visual creatures and need to see in order to believe. Second, sexy lingerie is hands down the best way to convey to your man exactly what you want and need. After that, what more could you ask for?
